Omega 3 Fats
Polyunsaturated fatty acid
  • 1. Alpha Linolenic – plant source  (flaxseed, walnuts, canola, soy)
  • 2. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) – fatty fish
  • 3. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) – fatty fish

  • AHA Recommendations:


  • Pts w/o CAD ¢ Eat fish at least 2 x week. Include foods rich in alpha – linolenic acid.


  • Pts with CAD ¢ Consume 1 gm of EPA + DHA /day. Preferably from oily fish or supplements under physician approval.


  • Pts to â Trigs ¢ 2-4 gms/day of EPA + DHA under physician
  •     supervision.
